Tri-Sense / Bachelor Project

My bachelor project is aiming to do a product that will help color-blinded people (especially the red-green type). They tend to see colors in a different way than normal color vision people. Some shades of colors are seen differently which is a cause of different reasons could be genetic, physical, age-related, etc. As well as there are different types of color blindness; Color blindness affects approximately 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 (0.5%) women in the world. My bachelor will also focus on how to help them to experience and feel the color in front of them better and maybe to reach a satisfying and easier interaction with the colors they in front of them. That is a big problem for colorblinded people that they can’t distinguish the colors may confuse them as colors are in everything surrounding us. Interviewing the target group was an important phase as it helped to know their needs and see how they feel about it. However, through my thesis my design process is started and how I have started by my concepts to reach my final concept which is a set designed especially for the red-green color blinded to wear it and make them have a complete sense and experience of the colors. LET INTRODUCE TRI-SENSE.

How it works?

Playing on two main senses other than vision to make them feel and experience the color; which are the hearing and tasting senses. By the two other senses, I’ll try to compensate the color that they do not see by giving them the same feeling of it. The more the senses the more the experience of the color, as they believe that what they really miss from color blindness is not feeling or experience the color as normal vision people leading to final concept to give them a greater experience with colors. This concept will simulate the feeling of the color but through the tasting or hearing sense.

First, I chose that the device that will have the main processing unit the color sensor and Bluetooth module that sends the signals controlling the ear buds and the tongue patch to be a glasses; as it is the closest thing to the eye.

The glasses has 2 buttons on each side. On one side the on and off buttons, the other side has one for the taste and one for the hearing; Each is done in different texture to be distinguished. The doted as the tongue for the taste and the lines for the hearing option. The user decide which option he wants to feel the color through.

The ear bud after receiving the hearing option, will be activated.

The tongue patch after receiving the tasting option, will be activated.

The Package:

The product will come as a form of a package as it all completing each other and work as one unit. The Package will include the glasses, the earbud, and the tongue patch. As well as the wireless charger for the earbud and the patch, which will work as a protective cover for them also; to be taken with the user easily out with no loss of them. The package of the whole will be named “Tri-Sense”.
Why Tri-Sense?
Tri means three. As it is a collaboration of three senses hear, taste, feel the textures to make you (try) the colors and feel rather than seeing it with its main other sense(seeing). However, the word “tri” has the same pronunciation of the word “try”, in which the product try to let the color blinded people to try the color they do not see.

For the charging, the earbuds will have their charging box(magnetic wireless charger) which charge by magnetization. Wireless charger will make the user to be able to have it with him to carry the ear buds inside it when it is not in use. Also to charge them when the battery is empty as you just place them on the surface of the charger. For the tongue patch, it will have as well a magnetic wireless charger. The wireless charger will have the same technique of the ear bud’s charger, in which you place it on the surface it will get charged. For the glasses it will has a place for a socket to be charged by wires. Comparing to the ear buds and tongue patch it is a bit big to have a wireless charger case.
